Bawerchi, a modest restaurant serving Indian cuisine, has opened at 613 Bardstown Rd., in the space that most recently was Aladdin’s Café.

Owner and chef, Mohammed Sajid, serves both vegetarian and meat dishes, including several preparations using goat meat. All meats served are halal certified.

The varied menu offers dishes from all regions of India. Diners can find kabobs, khorma, curries, paneers and naan. Nehari is a beef stew, and the familiar biryani preparation is available with either chicken or goat. There are also fried rice dishes and vegetarian fare such as bhindi masala, a tomato and okra stew, and baingan bharta, a spicy agplant dish. Desserts include mango lassi.

Bawerchi is open  p.m-11 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
