That event, of course, is the repeal of the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (which started Prohibition) by the 21st Amendment, which finally and gratefully repealed that historical mistake. Several local businesses are celebrating with special events, all entering around whiskey.
* The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience, 528 W. Main St., will offer free distillery tours, hors d’oeuvres, educational bourbon tastings, bourbon-themed door prizes and a cash bar serving Prohibition-themed cocktails during the First Friday Trolly Hop, 5-11 p.m., Dec. 4
* Bourbons Bistro, 2255 Frankfort Ave., will continue its tradition Saturday, Dec. 5, 6-8 p.m., of offering “two-bit” (25 cent) pours of a historically interesting whiskey along with 25 cent appetizer bites. The restaurant will play Prohibition-era films and is encouraging flapper costumes, with a $50 gift certificate awarded to the best outfit.
*The Filson Historical Society will offer a Repeal Day Bourbon Tasting, Saturday, Dec. 5 from 6-8 p.m. at Kentucky Peerless Distilling Company, 120 N. 10th St. The tasting will feature samples of Old Crow Whiskey and a Paul Jones Rye from the 1890s compared with modern day offerings from Michter’s and Woodford Reserve. Cost: $103.49 per person.
*Repeal Day Trail, Saturday, Dec. t, 7-11 p.m., at Proof on Main, 8UP, Meta, Down One Bourbon Bar and Doc Crow’s.
Get a passport at any of the above locations, take it around to the other locations on the Repeal Day trail and get a passport stamp at each location. Bartenders in Prohibition-era dress will serve classic, speakeasy cocktails, and mustaches will be provided for guests.

The second annual Repeal Party will feature music by Tony Matthew and The Groove Machine along with drink specials, starting at 9 p.m. Admittance free.
