502 Bar and Bistro Chef Ming Pu is teaming up with his long-time mentor Chef Peng Looi (August Moon and now closed Asiatique) to host a modern Asian dinner with wine pairings on Thursday January 17, 2019, just a matter of days before Chef Pu prepares a dinner with a group of Louisville chefs  at the Beard House in New York.  This Louisville dinner at 502 Bar and Bistro, 10401 Meeting St., is a 6-course meal ($55/ticket),  but it can also be enjoyed with a wine pairing ($85/ticket). Wine pairings will be provided by Sommelier Michael Taylor of Southern Wine & Glazers. There will be an additional 20% service fee. Chef Pu is originally from Taiwan, and Chef Looi is originally from Malaysia.With short stays in Canada and England (respectively), they both ended up in Louisville.  Ming worked directly under Looi at Asiatique and learned much over the years from Looi’s unique techniques and modern style. Both chefs have long lists of accolades like preparing meals at the James Beard House, and it was from Chef Looi that Chef Pu learned the fusion style.

The menu features dishes consisting of Modern fused with Malaysian and Taiwanese cuisine.

1st Course – Study of Poultry – Ayam Kunyit “Tumeric Chicken”, Tamarind Chutney / Xian Su Ji “Taiwanese Fried Chicken”, Thai Basil Infused Honey

2nd Course – Oxtail Consomme – Oxtail Hun Tun (Wonton), Compressed Root Vegetables

3rd Course – Fish – Halibut, Lemongrass, Petai, Sambal Tumis, Crisp Curry Leaves

4th Course – Pork – Lu Rou Fan, Mushroom Conserva, Berkshire Pork Belly, Scallion Oil, 5-spice Pork Glace

5th Course – Beef – Creekstone Farm Ribeye, Rendang Sauce, Baby Bok Choy, Garlic Flakes

Dessert – Panna Cotta – Coconut, Chai Ice Cream, Puffed Rice
