The folks from Havana Rumba and Mojito’s have opened a new concept on Bardstown Road at Douglas Loop.

This incarnation is part quick serve design-your-own entrée (think Qdoba with a Cuban and Spanish take) and part Spanish tapas bar.

The build-your-own entrée side features items like Chicken Fricasse Stew ($3), Lechon Asado (roasted pork) $3, Ropa Vieja (shredded beef) $4 and Lomo Saltado (filet mignon, potatoes and veggie stir fry) $5. The sides include Rice ($1), Black Beans ($2), Cuban Tamale ($3), Ajiaco (Cuban stew) $2 and Fried Yuca with Mojo ($2) among others.

On the Tapa side of the restaurant the ready to serve selections come in hot and cold bites and range from $1.50 to $3 (the meat or cheese plate are the priciest at $4).

The hot or “Tapas Calientes” menu has 22 choices that include a handful of empanadas, croquetas, skewers and brochetas with nine more signature tapas. The cold side offers nine options including Hummus, Ceviche and stuffed piquillo peppers.

The restaurant is spacious, modern and well appointed. The custom lights in the main dining area are the visual focal point. The massive, gleaming bar is the attraction on the tapas side of the restaurant.

If the food tastes as good as the restaurant looks inside, the folks at Havana Rumba  have another hit on their hands!

Starting tonight the restaurant will be open for dinner only. But in a couple weeks they will settle into their normal hours that will include lunch.
