According to our friend Kevin Gibson reporting at his website, the legendary Vernon Lanes is about to reopen.

Vernon Lanes, the historic bowling alley and club in Butchertown, is finally about to reopen. No opening date is set, but the hope is pins will be falling by the end of March.

The new ownership group, part of which also owns Saints Pizza Pub in St. Matthews, purchased the multi-level building, located at 1575 Story Ave., which was constructed in 1886, last year and announced it would be renovated. That renovation is moving toward completion, based on a recent walk-through of the space.

In addition to a comprehensive refurbishment of the bowling equipment, there’ll be a new bar, stage and kitchen. As for the food, Gibson quotes general manager Bruce Jarrett’s description of “cool, funky bowling alley food,” adding that Zach Henderson (Galaxie, Portage House, 211 Clover Lane) will be at the helm.

In a Facebook post, Vernon Lanes management added this comment about the kitchen: “This is American classic fare with immigrant flavors interspersed throughout, with a plethora of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free menu to be as accessible to as many people as possible.”
