On Wednesday, May 21 the recently minted fowl specialist Dirty Bird (1022 Clarks Lane) announced that “today will be our last day of operations for the time being” in Louisville’s Audubon neighborhood, near far trendier Germantown.

Team Dirty Bird’s post at Facebook places the blame squarely on Kentucky’s Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

While The Dirty Bird is still in the licensing window, (owner Fred) Pizzonia said he has concerns about getting his license in the near future because of complaints, including those from a state ABC official, about the suggestive menu titles and signage at the restaurant.

Dirty Bird restaurant halts operations amid liquor license struggle

Pizzonia, the property owner and manager of The Dirty Bird, told Louisville Business First the restaurant will close temporarily after business Wednesday, May 21, due to its inability to secure a liquor license. Pizzonia says he’s losing about $10,000 a week because the lack of alcohol sales is driving away customers and employees.

Promising “Booze. Bands. Fried Chicken,” Dirty Bird opened in February.
