It’s official:

The restaurant property known for a decade as Avalon has been sold by longtime restaurateur Steve Clements, for $1.8 million, to lawyers and restaurant developers Shawn and Vanessa Cantley.

If the Cantleys’ names sound familiar, you’ve likely heard them connected to the Silver Dollar, the hot and happenin’ Clifton honkytonk they also funded. With the help of Silver Dollar operating partner Larry Rice, the trio is converting the Avalon space into a Tiki-bar and Mexican street-food concept dubbed El Camino (Spanish for “the road”). The concept will include a Mexican bakery configured in the space once held by the Luna boutique on the Avalon property.

The idea is born of Shawn Cantley’s youth in the Southern California surfing scene. And as hard as this group worked to craft the honkytonk vibe at Silver Dollar, we can only expect this next creation will be just as authentic and interesting.
