No sooner do we post notice of three new places for Mexican food, of varying levels of actual “Mexican-ness,” than another such restaurant opens, this one promising traditional Mexican styles of food. Café Aroma has opened at 2020 Brownsboro Rd., in the row of little houses that has housed several food-related businesses over the years.

The menu is small and a grocery is part of the business. There are a few booths and tables and a TV in one corner with Spanish soap operas–telenovelas–playing constantly.  All this bodes well for those searching out “authenticity” in ethnic restaurants.

The menu mainly features what you would expect: tacos, burritos, tortas, tostadas, quesadillas, enchiladas and tamales, along with a few outliers such chicken mole, chilaquiles, mojarras (a fish dish) and gisado verde, a Mexican-style stew.
