Club Nirvana will open in the near future at 1047 Bardstown Rd., in the space that most recently was the site of Cahoots, a bar that had garnered a reputation for rowdiness, fights, and frequent police calls.

The new business will be opened by Kashmira Singh, owner of Kashmir Indian Restaurant at 1277 Bardstown Rd. His family also runs Time & Space, a bar next to Kashmir.  In an article in Insider Louisville, Singh described his vision for his new business as an “upscale, casual atmosphere targeting millennials.”

After considerable complaints from Highlands neighbors about violence, crime and frequent peace disturbances, Cahoots shut down last year after the Louisville Metro Department of Codes and Regulations refused to renew its liquor license.

Despite the reputation that haunts the site, Singh is confident that he can make the location a desirable neighbor. He plans to remodel the building, giving it an upscale and clean facelift.

Hoping to open sometime in March, Club Nirvana will have a dance floor, a new bar, a space for live music and a restaurant area. Singh said his brother Yogesh Kumar Pal, who’s in his mid-30s, will manage the bar and restaurant with Singh’s 25-year-old son. The menu is not yet formalized, but Singh and his partners want to include vegan and organic choices.
