Your correspondent happens to be a cat person by temperament, but no matter, because Dog Restaurant Week is coming to Louisville July 21 – 26.

Edible Louisville & the Bluegrass is a co-sponsor of Dog Restaurant Week.

Grab your pup and celebrate summer on the patio of three Louisville restaurants: Garage Bar, 700 E. Market St.; Saints Pizza and Pub, 131 Breckenridge Ln.; and DiFabio’s Casapela, 2311 Frankfort Ave. Featuring craft cocktails from Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Fido-friendly menu, like pupsicles made of frozen bone broth, turkey and veggie patties, beef sliders and truffle treats.

Bert “Tito” Beveridge has long supported the presence of dogs in everyday life. In a 2018 interview with Food & Dining, the founder of Tito’s Vodka spoke about his Vodka for Dog People outreach.

Our passion for animals goes back to the first days at the distillery. At the time, my only companion at the distillery was my German Shepherd mix, DogJo. DogJo’s food became a hit with the neighborhood strays, and I began to feed the dogs who would come and go. Eventually I started getting the strays spayed and neutered at the nearby Emancipet, an organization that offers low-cost spay, neuter and vaccination services to dogs and cats. Today, we still work with Emancipet and still have our dogs with us at the distillery and in the office. We can’t really imagine it any other way. Two years ago, we made our passion official with the Vodka for Dog People program. This vision is to unite with our friends, fans and partners to better the lives of pets and their families far and wide.

Louisville’s Dog Restaurant Week begins with a Yappy Hour gathering at DiFabio’s Casapela (2311 Frankfort Avenue) on July 21 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Kirby Adams has an informative preview at the Courier-Journal, and another valuable resource for dog lovers is the list of dog-friendly patios at Bring Fido.
