Chef/restaurateur Edward Lee announced on his Facebook page that he plans to donate all the profits from his restaurants Milkwood and 610 Magnolia during the next 49 days to Louisville Youth Group, a nonprofit that serves LGBT youth ages 14 through 20 in Louisville and Southern Indiana.

On his Facebook post Lee explains that the donation represents one day’s profits for each of the 49 people killed during the attack, which Lee calls an attack on “an LGBT community, a Latino community, a human community.”

“Like many, I want to help but I do not know what to do,” Lee wrote in his post. “What I do know is that there are factions on the other side of the fence that will profit from this massacre. That is both illogical and profane. I want to balance the scales even if just a little.”

When Lee expressed interest in doing something in response to the attack, Louisville artist and social entrepreneur Theo Edmonds recommended the organization as an important local resource for LGBTQAI youth in Kentuckiana. Lee said that the profits for the 49 days would amount to anywhere from $4,000 to $8,000.
