The original El Mundo on Frankfort Avenue in Crescent Hill observed its 25th birthday earlier in July, and to celebrate the restaurant has a gift for you: a second location, El Mundo Highlands, now open at 1767 Bardstown Road.

But first, to echo basketball great and Twitter superstar Rex Chapman, this is the content we’re here for.

It’s posted at the Louisville Mask Friendly Businesses group on Facebook:

El Mundo had a soft opening this weekend at their new spot on Bardstown Road – thoughtfully done. Mask enforcement. Staff. Management. Kitchen. All masks. Specifically asking patrons to wear masks when not actively eating or drinking. Patrons all complying. Not seating people close (the restaurant is huge – and huge patio space). Super tall booths which act like a barrier. Sanitizer stations. They open Tuesday to the public. Safe there.

El Mundo (“segundo”) is being very clear about its terms of engagement.

No-contact carryout with on-line ordering only is available Tuesday through Saturday from 12 noon to 10:00 p.m. Phone-in and in-person carryout orders will not be accepted; the menu is here, and the on-line ordering portal here.

Dine-in hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 4:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

“We’ve set up our restaurant so that we are able to comply with the CDC’s Social Distancing recommendations,” according to the web site. “The safety of our customers and staff is our top priority … all staff are wearing cloth face coverings and gloves, and practicing diligent hand washing and sanitizing regimens. Again, safety is our top priority.”

It’s a very good way to begin a new tradition.
