This year’s primary election in Kentucky was delayed a month and reformatted owing to the coronavirus. Voters choosing not to take advantage of early voting, absentee and mail-in options have twelve hours today to cast a ballot, and one place to do it.

“There will only one polling place in Jefferson County on primary day, and it’s at the Kentucky Exposition Center (937 Phillips Lane, South Wing A and B),” reminds WFPL’s election guide. “Polls will be open 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m on Tuesday, June 23. Enter at gates 2, 4 and 6. Parking is free.”

Some observers have expressed concern over the possibility of this COVID-inspired fairgrounds voter concentration leading to long, socially-distanced lines. There’ll be no way to know exactly what will happen until it does, or doesn’t, but The LEE Initiative is partnering with World Central Kitchen to feed people at the polls today.

The Lee Initiative in partnership with Chef Jose Andres’s World Central Kitchen is excited to be providing FREE meals to Louisville voters during the KY Primaries on Tuesday, June 23rd. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the lines for voters could potentially be longer than usual, and we are looking to provide support for members of the community in the best way we know how. We are asking for people to volunteer to pass this food out throughout the day, and are thankful to see our community band together during this time.

The LEE Initiative’s ever-expanding arsenal of projects include the Restaurant Reboot Relief Program, McAtee Community Kitchen, Restaurant Workers Relief Program, Regrow and the Women Chefs Program.

And, “José Andrés founded World Central Kitchen after the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti with the belief that food can be an agent of change. We have expanded globally and have developed into a group of chefs creating smart solutions to hunger and poverty. Today, World Central Kitchen uses the expertise of its Chef Network to empower people to be part of the solution, with a focus on health, education, jobs, and social enterprise.”
