The horse race takes place in Louisville, but the whole state celebrates during the first Saturday in May.

In Frankfort, the state Capitol, Gov. Steve Beshear and his family will start the day with a Downtown Derby celebration that will include a Derby Dash fun run, stick horse races for kids on the Old State Capitol lawn, live music, craft exhibits and food.

The celebration is open to everyone, free of charge.  The events will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in downtown Frankfort.  Look for the Capitol dome–you can’t miss it.
