Ashbourne Farms is the agricultural legacy of W.L. Lyons Brown and Sally [Shallenberger] Brown. A wedding gift to the young couple in 1937–several Scottish Shorthorn cattle and a bull–given by Sally’s grandfather, Ashton Cokayne Shallenberger, the fifteenth governor of Nebraska, launched the makings of the property that stands today.

According to a handy information release, Ashbourne Farms has commenced the buildout of its new Haymarket by Ashbourne Farms, a “marketplace and urban farm project” slated to occupy the former footprint of the Lebanese Country Club site (3032 River Road).

There’ll be locally-sourced produce, meats, coffee, bakery items and pre-packaged meals, with an emphasis on freshness and sustainability.

This quote by spokesperson and farm steward Austin Musselman provides the basic mission statement for the ongoing project: “Haymarket by Ashbourne Farms will bring energy and vibrance, as well as an appreciation of locally sourced foods to the community. It will offer residents an opportunity to support local businesses, learn more about local agriculture and perhaps inspire a growing movement towards sustainable food sourcing.”

Haymarket by Ashbourne Farms aims to launch in winter of 2023.
