When Burger Girl opened in late March at 3334 Frankfort Avenue where Crescent Hill meets St. Matthews, it was a geographical departure for business partners Dan Borsch and Scott Lukemire, who have quietly assembled a trio of popular Old Louisville eateries: Burger Boy, Toonerville Tavern Pizza & Deli and the Old Louisville Tavern.

Having found the climate in Crescent Hill to their liking, today Borsch and Lukemire are set to unveil Hillcrest Tavern at 3212 Frankfort Avenue, not two blocks away from Burger Girl.

The concept will be similar to that of the Old Louisville Tavern, according to Haley Cawthon of Louisville Business First, who spoke with Lukemire.

Our long-term dream was always to continue to grow the concept into other neighborhoods. We started to get more and more people coming [to Old Louisville Tavern] from other neighborhoods like St. Matthews and Crescent Hill. They tried our food and just loved it and that’s when we came to the realization that we need to branch out and get into other neighborhoods.”

Lukemire also chatted with Insider Louisville’s Kevin Gibson.

The Hillcrest Tavern menu, Lukemire says, will be almost identical to the one at Old Louisville Tavern. The only difference will be the addition of two items: a double-sized version of the house chicken tenders and a new side in the form of fire-roasted, cast-iron corn.
The kitchen will stay open until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, as well as midnight during the week.
“We’re trying to be a late-night option on this side of town,” Lukemire says. “We feel like there’s a food void here after 10.”
