Last year the coronavirus put the kibosh on St. Paddy’s Day celebrations. In 2021, there’ll be somewhat of a return to the revelry of old, absent the big-ticket events but with many bars and restaurants open for the holiday.

Writing at the Courier Journal, Dana McMahan describes the contrasting approach taken by a paradigmatic Irish pub.

The Irish Rover, 2319 Frankfort Ave., is taking a different COVID-era approach and is offering carry-out only for this year’s St. Patty’s, said co-owner Siobhan Reidy. In fact, the restaurant — a bona fide Irish Pub — isn’t even letting people drink on-premises for the holiday out of an overabundance of caution over COVID-19 safety concerns.

As a side note, for those establishments choosing to push the boundaries of pandemic restrictions, the city of Louisville vows it will be watching.

Yes, there may be some pent-up energy, so today be sure to heed the advice of the fictional television cop Phil Esterhaus and “be careful out there.” If you’re drinking green beer, Roger maintains that you’re doing it wrong; however, if you’re taking the opportunity to plant green peas, The Old Farmer’s Almanac says you’re doing it very right (featured photo credit: Irena Macri’s Food Fit for Life).
