Over at the Courier Journal, Lennie Omalza has the rundown of how Pho Ba Luu has become MoonDog (1019 E. Main St.) — in some ways the same, in others quite different.

Pho Ba Luu gets new life as MoonDog, a one-of-a-kind Vietnamese spot in Butchertown

I caught up with owner/operator and partner Tin Le, who took over the business this past September with partners Jessica May, a longtime Pho Ba Luu employee; and Andy Blieden, a local developer and the unofficial mayor of Butchertown.

Though the restaurant has a new moniker — Le chose the name to pay homage to his late pomsky, Luna — it still offers familiar favorites, as well as some fun new menu additions.

The eatery’s Instagram page elaborates:

What is MoonDog?

MoonDog is a quán nhậu, which is a Vietnamese term that refers to a place for eating and drinking. Our kitchen is open until midnight with dishes like phở, bánh mì, chicken wings, and more. The bar is serving beers, wines, and Vietnamese inspired cocktails until 1 AM. Come on by and transport yourself into a different world. We hope to see you all soon under these beautiful lanterns in our space.
