Mother’s Day perhaps rivals Valentine’s Day for celebratory meals in restaurants. This year Mother’s Day falls at the end of Derby week, Sunday, May 8. Many restaurants will have special meal offerings. Here are the ones that we have gotten word of.

Brasserie Provence, 150 N. Hurstbourne Pkwy.,  will offer a 3-Course Brunch with multiple choices from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Appetizer choices will include a spring salad, chilled pea soup, heirloom tomato and strawberry salad with goat cheese and citrus vinaigrette, mussels in white wine and garlic cream sauce, and a cheese ravioli with lamb. Entrée selections include filet mignon and egg with gratin dauphinois and roasted garlic emulsion, croque-madame with provençale tomato, macadamia encrusted mahi-mahi with passion fruit beurre blanc, chicken fricassee, and quiche. Dessert choices include a warm flourless chocolate cake, crème brulée, honey and almond cheesecake, and a pistachio macaron cake. Brice for the brunch is $35. Varanese, 2106 Frankfort Ave., will serve a special Mother’s Day brunch menu, offered alongside the regular menu, starting at 11:30 a.m. Appetizer and entrée specials will also be available for dinner service beginning at 5 p.m.

The a la carte choices include starters such as baby iceberg wedge salad with grape tomatoes, beet pickled eggs and creamy buttermilk dressing; home-style deviled eggs topped with 2 year aged prosciutto ham and a crab and spinach quiche. Entrées include crab cake with poached egg Benedict and lobster hollandaise; grilled beef tenderloin with poached egg Benedict with bacon potato hash; and bourbon barrel smoked turkey Hot Brown with Parmesan cream sauce served over brioche bread.
