My Morning Jacket drummer Patrick Hallahan’ s partnership with local attorney Jon Salomon and chef Bobby Benjamin is likely to provide a most interesting level of creative connections for the performance space and bar above Benjamin’s new restaurant, planning to open in November.

The restaurant, located at 1076 E. Washington St., and set to open in November, will offer a range of eating options downstairs, from a tasting menu to traditional dinner service, to one of the most outlandish “gourmet” burgers imaginable. The downstairs restaurant will seat 75, and include a 12-person chef’s table just outside the kitchen.

Upstairs a second kitchen will prepare charcuterie, pasta and gnocchi in house, and will offer a late-night menu until 2 a.m. But the big draw upstairs will be the bar and flexible performance space, which Hallahan, at a recent press preview, said would be a place for people to hear music, spoken word performances, and even theatrical events. Hallahan broached the idea of having “artists-in-residence,” performers who might contract to appear every Thursday, say, for a  month, to try out new work or jam with other artists.

The idea for a restaurant and bar in Butchertown was a brainstorm of Hallahan,  and his friend Jon Salomon, an attorney at Tachau Meek PLC, who lives in the neighborhood. They then contacted Benjamin, who had been chef at The Oakroom and La Coop.

Butchertown Grocery will be open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday downstairs, and 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday upstairs.
