In the beginning, the Parlour Pizza concept was absorbed into a group called Craft Culture Concepts, which has expanded Parlour and is franchising the pizzeria. Then CCC metaphorically hopped into bed with Falls City Brewing to open a branch of Parlour in place of FCB’s taproom at its brewery in Louisville.
FCB is owned in some way, shape or incorporation by the financial empire of John Neace, which invests through its Neace Ventures arm. At some point CCC purchased the downtown New Albany building that formerly housed Wick’s Pizza, supplanting Wick’s with Parlour.
Now Parlour New Albany will depart this building its parent owns, to move across the alley (see Google satellite view if you don’t believe me) to a building Neace Ventures (or whichever subsidiary is involved), which is being modernized and expanded after a long tenure as home of the legendary Hitching Post dive bar.
As a side note, one of the Neace incorporations also recently purchased Pastimes, building and business (no, not the one in Ohio), another downtown New Albany bar, preserving its current operation in spite of my earnest calls for it to become a Belgian-style “friterie” with frites, croquettes, mayonnaise and all the Falls City beers on tap.
That’s because of all the establishments referenced in the preceding, Pastimes is closest to my house.
And, through it all, acknowledging that your daily correspondent poses as a journalist only grudgingly, while under duress, it strikes him that the single most prominent unasked question so far is this: “What happens to the current Parlour space and its building once the pizzeria decamps across the alley?”
An actual journalist, Brooke McAfee, has the rest of the story at the Jeffersonville News and Tribune.
PARLOUR in New Albany to move to former Hitching Post space
Jason Wade, vice president of strategic operations and development at Neace Ventures, confirmed the plans for moving PARLOUR in New Albany, now located at 225 State St. The local pizza chain is expected to move into the former Hitching Post bar at 115 W. Market St. later this year. Renovations are underway to renovate the space.
The Hitching Post closed last October, according to its Facebook page. PARLOUR opened its current New Albany location in late 2020 in the space formerly home to Wick’s Pizza.
Wade said the goal is to open the new restaurant by early in this year’s third quarter.
