After opening one quick service luncheon spot in St Matthews this past spring, the owners of the Green District are to open a downtown store. The locally-owned salad restaurant is renovating the first-floor space at 225 S. Fifth St., to suit their business needs.

The restaurant owners, Jordan Doepke, Chris Furlow, Joey Mascaro and Matt Petty have purchased the building, which they intend to update fully to current codes. Their plan is to make the building the home of their restaurant business, and to lease the rest of the space.

The downtown location will focus more on carry-out business, according to a story in Insider Louisville  It will have five or six salad chopping stations, compared to three at the St. Matthews location, emphasize catering and plan to introduce delivery as well. Green District in St. Matthews will start testing delivery next week, offering it within a two-mile radius of the store.

Green District downtown is expected to open sometime this fall, serving lunch Monday through Friday and looking forward to extending to weekend hours once the Kentucky International Convention Center reopens and foot traffic warrants it.

Green District’s first store opened earlier this year at 126 Breckenridge Ln. in a former Chop Shop Salads. The success of that store spurred their interest in expanding to additional locations.
