Bourbon Heritage Month has been a national observance since 2007, the kind of promotional gimmick that just about every industry uses to call attention to its products. But surely this promotion is worth noting, for a number of local bars and restaurants are celebrating with specials throughout the month.

At Blu, 280 W Jefferson St., Old Forester $2 off the usual price. A changing weekly cocktail will be $9.

Bourbons Bistro, 2255 Frankfort Ave., will tout the concept of Bottled in Bond with a flight of three such bonded Bourbons – Old Forester 1897, Old Grand-Dad and Old Fitzgerald –  for $15 throughout September. On Tuesday, Sept. 15,  master distiller Chris Morris will host an Old Forester bourbon dinner, a 3-course meal with Old Forester Signature, Old Forester 1870 and Old Forester Birthday Bourbon. Cost will be $60 per person.

Thursday, Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m. Garage Bar, 700 E. Market St., will serve a 4-course Bourbon Aged Dinner prepared by executive chef Richard Sible for $45.

Sept. 18 Harvest, 624 E. Market St., will host a bar event with food and drink specials. Representatives of featured Bourbon Buffalo Trace will be on hand to talk about cocktails and Bourbon Heritage Month.

The staff of Patrick O’Shea’s, 123 W. Main St., will be dressed in 1920s-era costumes for Prohibition Night on Saturday, Sept. 19 complete with a suckling pig roast and Prohibition-era cocktails. There will be special pricing on bourbons throughout the month, as well.

A special Bourbon cocktail menu will be the contribution of Proof on Main, 702 W. Main St., to the month-long celebration. Try a KY Cousin, made with Four Roses Yellow label, iced tea, simple syrup and lemon or a Woodford Herbed Mint Julep with Woodford Reserve, amaro dell’erborista, ginger syrup and mint.  On Sept. 24, Michter’s master distiller Willie Pratt will be the expert guest at a 3- course bourbon-themed Fork & Bottle dinner, priced at $65.
