Southern Living magazine, which keeps a gimlet eye on all sorts of things Southern, has published a list of “The South’s Best New Restaurants,” and included Louisville’s Butchertown Grocery in the 25 businesses it highlighted. Butchertown Grocery was the only Louisville and only Kentucky restaurant mentioned in the list.

Co-owned by Chef Bobby Benjamin, Patrick Hallahan of My Morning Jacket and attorney Jon Saloman, Butchertown Grocery opened less than a year ago at 1076 E. Washington St. In addition to the downstairs restaurant, there is an upstairs bar and live music venue that also can double as private event space.

In its write-up, Southern Living complimented Benjamin on his ways with meat, citing his “ultra-juicy” burgers and house-cured salumi, and also praised his vegetable preparations and his gnocchi. The magazine’s citation begins with a capsule commentary on the Butchertown neighborhood’s recent “renaissance,” mentioning Copper & Kings distillery and Matt Jamie’s Bourbon Barrel Foods as well.
