Are you looking for traditional yet innovative ways to honor the summer solstice? Here are a few Euro-themed suggestions.

  • Build a bonfire to burn a witch, like the Danish.
  • Collect herbs and have a dance, like the Swedish.
  • Join Europe-wide Saint John’s Festival celebrations.
  • Practice ancient rituals at Stonehenge.

Or, closer to home, there’s the Summer Solstice Eve Soiree at Street Grub & Hops, benefiting APRON Inc. The party starts at 2:00 p.m. this Saturday (June 19) at 3922 Shelbyville Road.

The event includes live music with Richard Powell at 2:30 p.m., and Danny Flanigan from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Designer Kelly Burgess of Apero Seasons will offer workshops on making summer solstice floral garlands and crowns (2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.)

Street’s owner Jared Fox Matthews told Alex Durham of WLKY that food specials for the solstice celebration will lean toward classic American summer picnic fare. Learn more here: Louisville restaurant celebrating longest day of the year with summer solstice event.
