Everyone knows I’m a Europhile, and consequently, I’m gobsmacked to learn there was a Bulgarian restaurant in Louisville and it completely escaped my attention. I should have read my own magazine.

But I digress.

There’s a new eatery where the Bulgarian one used to be (8402 Hudson Lane in Fern Creek). Sweet and Juicy Seafood has temporarily parked its food truck and is preparing the space for opening by year’s end.

As usual, Michael L. Jones has the story at Louisville Business First including a chat with owner Lameshia Cunningham, who plans to add non-seafood options to the menu, but will retain her seafood focus.

Prior to launching the Sweet & Juicy Seafood food truck in 2017, she worked for Jefferson County Public Schools and operated a beauty saloon. But she has always felt at home in the kitchen. Cunningham’s stepfather was a professional chef who started teaching her to cook when she was a teenager.

“I learned a lot from him in the kitchen. He taught me pretty much everything I know,” she said. “It was kind of frustrating that he wasn’t able to open up a restaurant before he passed. So, you know, this is something kind of for me and him.”

Cunningham did not cook a lot of seafood until she started traveling and sampling the cuisine in places like New Orleans and Miami. After she started posting pictures of her attempts at some of the dishes on social media, people started requesting meals of their own.
