Corydon is located on the fringe of our coverage area, but if the Southern Hospitality group has a say in it, this history-rich Southern Indiana town won’t be out of mind when it comes to dining options.

Tavolo Italian Bistro — “tavolo” is Italian for table — will celebrate its grand opening on January 18. It’s the latest concept from Southern Hospitality and the second in Corydon (1816 Modern Kitchen is a scant 300 feet away to the west).

Tavolo occupies the ground floor of the recently remodeled JJ Bulliet building at 204 E Chestnut in Corydon. The bistro seats 70 inside, with outdoor dining on the way.

Patrons are promised “bold Italian flavors made from (the) highest quality and freshest ingredients,” as conceived and directed by head chef Casper van Drongelen, formerly of 8UP Elevated Drinkery & Kitchen. General manager Levi Donaldson and bar manager Chad Freudenberg complete the Tavolo team.

Tavolo is owned and operated by local business entrepreneurs Bobby and Ysha Bass. It joins the group’s other existing concepts: MESA – A Collaborative Kitchen and MESA Kids Cooking School (both in New Albany); the aforementioned 1816 Modern Kitchen & Drinks in Corydon; as well as Union Restaurant & GameYard, coming to Jeffersonville in 2020.

A casual Italian bistro in downtown Corydon, Indiana? For the Southern Hospitality restaurant group, that’s “È un gioco da ragazzi” — in Italian, a piece of cake.
