The local news channels were on the beat during the volunteer clean-up at the future home of Next Door Market in Russell. I tossed a coin and landed on WAVE-3: “Volunteers take aim at food scarcity by cleaning up site for new West Louisville grocery store.”

Volunteers working together at 3044 W. Broadway took aim at tackling those issues facing the area by starting the transformation of an abandoned machine shop into a grocery store. “I can’t wait to show them what we have in store,” said Megan Bell, the owner.

In a nutshell, the importance of virtually everything Bell is trying to achieve with her Next Door Market has been magnified and prioritized by events of the past months, whether they’re attributable to COVID-19, or an outgrowth of protests on behalf of social justice — or, the ongoing need to “stop valuing efficiency and start valuing resilience.”

Here’s our coverage from last November.
