Bardstown Bourbon Company offers the ideal escape clause from the drudgery of cleaning out the garage during your period of containment at home: don’t fill a dumpster, but hone your whiskey-tasting skills by entering the “World’s Top Whiskey Taster” contest.

The Nashville Scene elaborates.

When it comes to work-at-home and remote-learning opportunities, it’s tough to beat the new program recently announced by Bardstown Bourbon Co. as they’ve launched their hunt for the “World’s Top Whiskey Taster.” Partnering with the Moonshine University distilling school out of Louisville, Bardstown Bourbon is offering the chance for whiskey lovers, enthusiasts, fans and connoisseurs to compete for a grand prize of $20,000, a scholarship to Moonshine University’s Executive Bourbon Steward program, and the opportunity to represent Bardstown Bourbon Co. as a distillery ambassador at some of the world’s most preeminent whiskey festivals in 2021.

The competition begins with homework of a rare and exciting variety.

The competition is taking place in three phases: video submissions, regional qualifiers and the national finals. For phase 1, submit a one-minute video to YouTube, Instagram or Facebook where you demonstrate your passion for bourbon, your knowledge and how talented your palate is. Don’t forget to tag your submission with #WorldsTopWhiskeyTaster and share the URL of your submission along with your contact info at BardstownBourbon.com/WTWT. The deadline for phase 1 video submissions is June 15, 2020, so you’ve still got plenty of time for some extra practice at home before you hit “record” on your video.

After that, there’ll be regional qualifying challenges leading to a national finals this autumn in Bardstown, by which point contestants will be delighted to travel and interact with other humans in addition to tasting whiskey.

Bardstown Bourbon Co. national brand ambassador Sam Montgomery said, “We’re looking for people who are all about exploring and sharing their bourbon experience. We invite social media bourbon evangelists who are actively snapping and sharing photos of pours and pairings, as well as travelers and bourbon explorers who love to share their tales.”

Complete entry information can be found at the distillery’s web site. Meanwhile, a helpful “how to” has been provided at the Facebook page.
