Now there are two ways to get some A.S.S. in New Albany, but before delving into the new iteration, a quick review of the old.
American Smokehouse Stadium (we’re told the acronym is a serendipitous coincidence) opened in Jeffersonville in February 2018, and remained at 5580 Highway 62 until April 2023, when the restaurant quietly moved across the street to 1000 Auction Lane, freeing the previous location to be occupied by the second location of Harry’s Taphouse and Kitchen.
In July 2023, American Smokehouse Stadium closed, and in August, founder Nathan Todero released this statement on Facebook.
As the creator of American Smokehouse Stadium, I am pleased to announce that though our restaurant has closed, we have franchised the food truck that will run independently by an ex-employee (cook and food truck operator), the charming Michael Tackett! He will run the truck under the A.S.S. brand and will carry many of your favorite recipes but will also be creating new items from his own creation! He will be excited to service your events, parties, festivals, neighborhoods, doordash (coming soon), with the food truck and catering!…Thank you for supporting our new franchisee and I’m happy to have Michael carrying on the A.S.S. legacy! By September 2023, the A.S.S. smoker and logo truck were constant presences to the rear of 419 E. Market St. in downtown New Albany, and later the sign appeared on the porch, reminding us that in the animal kingdom, there are two distinct species of ass belonging to the horse family.
(There is no telling where this conversation might conclude in places like Italy, but I digress.)
At any rate, A.S.S. currently can be procured in New Albany via carryout (only; no dine-in) at the aforementioned 419 E. Market St. bricks ‘n’ mortar, as well as by DoorDash.
