For a succinct sentence-long review with approval impishly implied, it’s hard to touch this enticing appraisal of Mr. Lee’s Lounge: “Speakeasy meets upscale cocktail bar shrouded in a cloak of darkness.”
From darkness to subdued lighting, then fading to black. The owners of Mr. Lee’s have revealed that Saturday, December 28 will be the bar’s final evening.

We are announcing that Mr. Lee’s plans to cease operations as of closing time on Saturday, December 28.
We welcome everyone who has graciously and enthusiastically supported us for the last three years, along with those who’ve perhaps never visited Mr. Lee’s, to please come join us during this last week in celebrating what has been a dedicated commitment to great cocktails and service, presented in an environment unique to the city. Potential plans are underway for new owners and a transition to a new look and feel for the Mr. Lee’s space.
We would like to give special thanks to Mark, Nick, Dylan, Allison, Daniel, and Emily for their vision and incomparable level of service, and we will anticipate, along with all of you, what might be coming in the future…
Thank You,
David (Gilbert) & Tommy (Humphries)
Mr. Lee’s opened at 935 Goss Avenue in 2016, and Insider Louisville’s Sara “The Bar Belle” Havens was intrigued: “The owners envision Mr. Lee’s as a modern take on a classic cocktail lounge. The sparse decor out front gives it that speakeasy vibe — where if you didn’t know it was there, you’d probably walk right by it.”
Two years later, Kevin Gibson described Mt. Lee’s in a Thrillist submission about Speakeasy-themed bars.
The darkness within (the space is illuminated only by candles and wall sconces) gives way to a horseshoe-shaped bar, a narrow lounge, and a truly mysterious vibe. When seated, you are greeted with an amuse-bouche and a short menu of cocktails that is ever-rotating based on the freshest available ingredients. House-made bitters and carbonated beverages offer flavors from lavender to rhubarb, and the service is always attentive and friendly.
When the future shape of the former Mr. Lee’s emerges from these descending shadows, we’ll be back to share what we know.
