Alas, there’ll be no more Acid Cat Spirit Guide, the house specialty at Bar Expo (Expo Bar?) downtown at 114 Main St., which closed last week after a five-year run. In an Instagram post, the bar identified the culprit: file under “hefty rent increase.”

Here’s the complete text.

I’ve put off posting this for a few days because it’s the worst news I’ve had to deliver since my mama left us, but sadly we have poured our final ribbons down here at bar expo. I posted back in April about a pretty gnarly rent increase we were facing, and while I found a temporary remedy to the new sky high costs, I knew it was a tenuous endeavor, leaving little to no wiggle room in the event of an emergency or sudden significant cost.

Unfortunately we hit that tipping point this month, and with rents as they are we just can’t keep this amazing little experiment running.

I would have given anything to have one last big night, give the house away and kiss all your beloved faces; but when life throws a punch, you gotta take it on the chin. So I just want to say thank you instead.

Thank you to everyone who got us through covid and five awesome years, you have all left an indelible mark on my heart and given me memories I wouldn’t trade for the world. Thank you to the incredible staff (even the not so incredible ones) for making this journey so special. Thanks for making the Acid Cat the best selling cocktail in town, and for the many accolades and superlatives you piled on us over the years.

Thank you Sisi, thank you Aiden, Morgan, Blair, Daniel and my amazing nephew Kohl for riding until the wheels fell off with me, it truly warms my broken heart.

always serve the people before yourself, be good to one another and remember:

The days are long, the nights are longer, and after midnight, the drinks only get stronger!

Love y’all more than any social media post could ever express, see you down the road.
