Editor’s note: “The Taste Bud” by Kevin Gibson returns next Friday.

The Courier-Journal reports the closing on August 28 of the Royals Hot Chicken location at 10310 Shelbyville Road.

“We closed on Sunday, Aug. 28 due to the continued impact of fluctuating COVID dining restrictions when the restaurant opened, which limited the ability to build awareness and traffic,” Managing Partner Sarah Blasi said in an email. The Royals’ location at 736 E. Market St. remains open.

Royals Hot Chicken added two locations in 2020, one in Jeffersontown and the other in the East End. These both are now closed, but as the CJ affirms, the NuLu flagship at 736 E. Market is still up and running.
