Not to be confused with the recently opened Hop Atomica (1318 McHenry St. in Germantown), a brewery and restaurant borrowing its concept from the original in Savannah, Georgia, the forthcoming Atomic Sound Club & Gameyard (1125 Bardstown Rd.) looks to Jeffersonville for wording inspiration.

At Louisville Business First, Michael L. Jones has the coverage.

“It’ll be a stay-and-play kind of place,” (entertainment director Ryan) Cox said. “The game yard is not to be confused with a playground, because it is going to be a 21 and up establishment. You could compare it to the Union (Restaurant & Gameyard) on the other side of the bridge. The key difference being that they are kind of food-centric and family-oriented.”

Atomic will have small bites at opening in July, but seems positioned primarily as a bar. The location is a former laundromat in the Cherokee Triangle neighborhood, which might as well be the Highlands as far as visitors are concerned.

The $1.4 million development will feature a dance club, lounge and bar on the inside and a patio and game yard outside. There will also be a two-story, eight-unit AirBnB-style hotel adjacent to the game yard.

And yes, more likely than not there will be confusion between the two Atomics. Might I suggest a quick “gameyard” rebrand as Supersonic?

I mean, the lyrics even specify “gin and tonic.”
