Add another chapter to the long-running saga of J. Gumbo’s, as reported by Michael L. Jones at Louisville Business First.

J. Gumbo’s location closes

A location of a Louisville-based, fast-casual Cajun restaurant chain closed last week.

The J. Gumbo’s at 2109 Frankfort Ave. is now available for lease. The more than 1,300-square-foot restaurant, which opened in July 2005, was the chain’s flagship store.

According to Jones, local J. Gumbo’s locations at 1616 Grinstead Drive (Highlands) and 11604 Main St. (Middletown) remain open for business, in addition to seven eateries in Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee. The web site has the back story.

After opening several successful Cajun restaurants across the country, Billy Fox, Jr. settled in Louisville, Kentucky in 2005 and opened the first J. Gumbo’s restaurant (back then we called it “Gumbo A Go-Go!”) in a small building that was originally built as a dairy. From that humble start, Billy has grown the concept into numerous stores in many different states sharing his authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine with millions of hungry customers.
