Chris Mike, owner of Goose Creek Diner, has opened Gander: An American Grill, at111 S. English Station Rd. While Goose Creek Diner has long focused on Southern comfort food, Gander serves up a wide range of American food, from wings to prime rib, from crab cakes to tacos.
Some Goose Creek Diner favorites are included on Gander’s menu, but Mike is determined to keep the two restaurants looking different, and offering a different dining experience.
Gander has been open about a month now, since mid-September, after renovation delays postponed a planned late summer opening.
When Mike and his wife, Anne Mike, first got into the restaurant business with Goose Creek Diner, they bought an ongoing concern, one that had an identity and a menu focus. Gander is the first business they have opened from scratch, with a menu that reflected his own vision. He hopes what he has put together will appeal to local clientele in the East End.
Gander is open for lunch and dinner. Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
