Brewery news items today, “Hip Hops” tomorrow, because I feel a cleansing rant coming on.
This week Great Flood Brewing Company took to Instagram to announce the closing of its restaurant in Middletown (12717 Shelbyville Road).
“Last night was our official last night in Middletown. Thank you for the four and a half years we had serving you. Please feel free to visit us at our highlands location which will continue to operate as normal.”
The Highlands taproom is located at 2120 Bardstown Road.
Louisville Business First’s Zak Owens covered the Middletown closing.
The company was founded in 2014 by Matt Fuller and Zach Barnes. In 2020, our research team noted Great Flood was the fourth-largest producer of beer in Louisville based on production volume. This year, however, they did not respond to our annual brewer survey, so the exact production volume is unknown.
Great Flood’s “last call” in Middletown had barely concluded when the building’s next occupant was revealed: Lou Lou III (Lou Lou Middletown).
When more information about the Lou Lou launch in Middletown becomes available, and I have a feeling it won’t be long, I’ll be back.
As a side note, the Lexington-based folks behind the Louisville taproom of Pivot Brewing appear to be, well, pivoting.

Some big changes are in store for Pivot!
We had a great response to our plan for community and employee ownership through crowdfunding, and that would have been a wonderful structure for Pivot. However, a few of us are moving on from the business, which is creating a hole in our management and production team that doesn’t fit with the crowdfunding model. We are therefore opening up the opportunity for a new owner and brewing team to take the reins of Pivot through a sale.
Thank you for supporting us over the years, and we are excited to see what a new team can offer you in the future!
You can find information about the sale here.
