The Table, 1800 Portland Ave., is Louisville’s addition to a restaurant trend popping up in communities across the country. The Table allows customers to “pay what they can,” a community effort to feed those in need, and to allow those who can to help in doing so by paying as much as they can.
If a hungry customer cannot pay much, or at all, they can help with service or do other jobs around the restaurant. The restaurant posts a suggested price for their dishes, and those who can pay the full price are encouraged to do so, and those who can pay more than the suggested price are encouraged to add extra to “pay it forward.”
The table serves soups, salads, sandwiches and side dishes, with suggested prices from $3 (for soups) to $6 and $7 for sandwiches.
