A refresher course: “If it’s legal, it ain’t speakeasy.”
Speaking factually, any “speakeasy” today, just as during Prohibition, must by definition be illegal for it to be termed a speakeasy, and when deprived of this necessary illicitness by virtue of perfectly pragmatic business principles (read: the fear of being raided, shut down and prosecuted), and bearing various government licenses and a tax number, such an establishment reverts to the status of bar, tavern or dive.
Of course, the prerequisites of universal cosplay suggest otherwise, but here we are.
It transpires that “the KFC Yum Center has a new premium destination for guests looking to get in a pregame or halftime cocktail.”
Speakeasy unveiled at Yum Center, by Zak Owens, Louisville Business First
Heaven Hill announced in a release Monday that the space previously housing the Evan Williams Bourbon Bar has been revamped and rebranded as the Elijah Craig Speakeasy.
“This elevated space brings to life the top-shelf quality that Elijah Craig is known for and invites both Louisvillians and those traveling to the city to experience the essence of the brand,” said Max Stefka, Group Product Director for Elijah Craig. “We’re grateful to the Yum! Center and our partners at KNBA Architects and Bosse Construction for bringing our vision for the Elijah Craig Speakeasy space to life.”
