In college basketball, it takes more players to make a team than typically are eligible for scholarships and assistance as athletes. Consequently the walk-ons are the players who pay their own way because they love it, and are willing play non-glamorous parts in pursuit of a bigger picture.
Two such basketball players at LSU in the late 1990s were Brandon Landry and Jack Warner, who properly understood their roles, became friends, and leveraged their identities as former basketball walk-ons into the first Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux in Baton Rouge (2003). In 2015, former Purdue University and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees purchased a 25% stake in Walk-On’s, and franchising commenced.
This brings us to the present, and the Clarksville building at 970 E. Lewis and Clark Parkway that formerly housed Juicy Crab and Logan’s Roadhouse, now to become the third Indiana location of Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux.
Libby Cunningham broke this story at the Jeffersonville News and Tribune.
The restaurant concept was named the top sports bar in America by ESPN in 2012 and Brees joined as a partner a few years later. The name comes from two Louisiana State University basketball players who walked on to the team in the late 1990s and cooked up a plan to open a business.
Its menu offers a variety of items including po’boys, appetizers, salads, cocktails, deserts, sandwiches and more.
The exact opening date has not been revealed.
