Today we have an APRON Inc. information doubleheader.
First, this statement explaining that while APRON’s special COVID relief grants are coming to an end, the non-profit organization intends to keep moving forward with its decade-old “regular” grant program, which assists Louisville area restaurant workers in need.
Later this morning we’ll preview the coming week’s Chef in a Box offering. It’s a tasty fundraising project dating to the summer of 2020, which benefits APRON’s grant program.

APRON Inc and Covid
All of us at APRON are excited to see our beloved independent restaurants and bars at full capacity, brimming with energy and with their guests in celebratory moods.
We salute all our friends who worked so hard through the last year to make restaurants safe for us, and who found new ways to make their businesses function.
Please know that our hearts go out to all who lost loved ones during the last 15 months. There are a lot of empty seats that we wish were still filled with old friends.
The virus really put APRON to the test. We received an unprecedented number of applications, and as of June 2 have paid out $286,000 to 543 recipients from 170 different independent restaurants. We are immensely proud of the help we were able to give back to our community, and are humbled beyond words at the immense support we received throughout the year community members, corporations, and foundations.
As of June 30, 2021, we will no longer be offering the special Covid grants.
The heart of our mission is our regular grant program, which will continue stronger and more robust than ever. We also plan to add information seminars on topics touching on restaurant employment, i.e. taxes, insurance, addiction awareness, etc.
And, stay tuned, because we are busy planning our 10/10 (October 10) event celebrating 10 years as a local non-profit: “Serving Those Who Serve You.”
