When the Louisville Business First header first appeared in my social media feed, I began scrolling down the list of the many Louisville-area “festive” cafes: A festive Louisville cafe will close permanently later this month.
- Thanksgiving is for Giblets Diner
- Arbor Day Pine Nut Gelato ‘n’ Stuff
- Easter Eggs and Spam Bistro
- Mr. Lincoln’s Birthday Hot Curry Emporium
- Not Your Father’s Day Hot Dogs
Turns out it was none of these purely fictional institutions, but Christmas Morning Café, the Yuletide-themed eatery at 2359 Frankfort Avenue, which will be closing at the end of May.
The following day, owner Craig Bishop elaborated at Facebook. It’s as compelling a statement of indie restaurant passion as I’ve seen lately, and even tugs at the heartstrings of inveterate Grinches like me. Even if Christmas isn’t your personal gig, we all can dig the resonance for those, like Bishop, who love it.
Christmas Morning. Cafe Statement!
Let me say this…. not many people have had or will have the chance to live the fairytale that we’ve lived here for two years , it goes beyond measure to say how valuable these times have been in the vein of great memories and fun times, truly not knowing how popular this venture was going to be led us to try to expand, however, we were unable to do so, but let me be clear, Christmas Morning Cafe doesn’t have to close, we choose to do so, Let’s face it I’m not a spring chicken anymore LOL, and in spite of rent increases cost of products tripling struggles with staffing and many other obstacles That this pandemic era has tossed our way , we could choose to fight those battles, but I say, let’s leave that to the younger generation, rest assured I always have something up my sleeve and sometime in the future we may be back to doing something that involves Christmas, who knows, you all know it’s my passion And like I said on the Facebook post there’s nothing much else to say ,but merry Christmas to all and to all a good night, no matter how corny that sounds ….that’s the way I like it.
