The historic Derby Cafe has undergone a transformation and has reopened at the Derby Museum, 704 Central Ave. The large cafe is now called Derby Cafe Express and will serve a “grab and go” menu of items. Guests can still dine in the dining room or on the expansive patio that overlooks new stables.
Rosemary’s Catering,a brand within RK Group, holds the new catering contract through 2023 for the cafe, and General Manager TJ Mueller says, “We are really excited for the spring meets. It [the grab and go concept] satisfies the quick aspect of the museum, allowing people to have more time in the museum, but if people want to sit down and eat, we can certainly do that, too.”
According to their web site, “The Derby Cafe Express serves hot and cold breakfast items such as parfaits, fresh breakfast pastries, muffins, and kolache; alongside fresh-brewed and iced coffee, tea, juices and bottled beverages. The lunch menu offers a selection of popular deli-style sandwiches, paninis, soups, salads, fresh fruit, and Kentucky-inspired staples like the one and only Derby Pie, benedictine, and classic rotating specials.”
The cafe still remains on the Urban Bourbon Trail with a full bar that offers over 50 bourbons.
