Alles Gute, Erika! Erika’s German Restaurant (9301 Hurstbourne Park Blvd.) has closed after a 10-year run in what most would call a challenging location off Hurstbourne Road.
Though anyone who ate there would tell you it was worth the truly minor struggle to find it just a turn or two off Hurstbourne Lane in J-Town.
Why the closure? According to a sign the door the owner is retiring.
Phillips and Rogers team up for charity cocktail battle: Down One Bourbon Bar and Restaurant is raising money for local charities with a Charity Bartending Challenge that kicks off Jan. 15.
While the challenge will run three separate weeks, we thought the week one pairing the most interesting: Food Network Star Season 9 Winner and Host of Southern at Heart Damaris Phillips, and Feast BBQ owner Ryan Rogers.
Rogers and Phillips will shake drinks in an effort to raise the most tips for Star Duck Charities. Additionally, Down One Bourbon Bar and Restaurant will donate a percentage of sales during each of the three events to the bartenders’ selected charities.
The Phillips and Rogers night is Wednesday and runs from 7-9 p.m.
Buffet all the way! At least that’s what we think on weekends. Main Street Café (217 E. Main St.) adding brunch buffet to weekend menu starting Jan. 20, and will extend its weekday hours from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Well, so much for the diet!
The buffet menu will feature core items including executive chef Laurence Agnew’s house-cured savory bacon made with star anise, black pepper and coriander and sweet bacon with sorghum. Main Street’s signature grits supplied locally by Weisenberger Mill and finished with cream cheese for extra richness will also be a brunch menu staple. Diners can enjoy other rotating menu items created weekly and a Bloody Mary bar allowing customers to build their own beverage with seasonal ingredients and spices.
Cost of the weekend brunch buffet is $14.95 for adults and $6.95 per child under age 12, plus tax and gratuity. Children under age five eat free. For more information, call 502-992-8080.
