Filipino cuisine embodies the native diversity of the Philippine archipelago, as combined with Indian, Chinese, Spanish and American influences. An excellent primer can be found here: Filipino food: a cuisine of many influences, at The Splendid Table.

Over at Louisville Business First, our friend and erstwhile colleague Michael L. Jones takes a look at Xian’s Kitchen, the newest Filipino table in town.

Filipino restaurant opening in former Honey Baked Ham location in Middletown

(Jovy) Flores and his wife Christian hope to change that when their catering business, Xian’s Kitchen, opens its first brick-and-mortar restaurant at 12338 Shelbyville Road in the Middletown Plaza in late November.

“Our motto is, ‘To serve the Filipino community and share our culture,'” Flores explained. “Hopefully, the business will help Filipino food catch up to the others (in popularity).”

Jones adds, “While they are waiting for their restaurant to be ready, Jovy and Christian are serving meals inside the former Clearwater Pool location at 4602 Wattbourne Lane in the East End.”
