(This week’s “Hip Hops” will appear on Thursday 18 April)

Today restaurateur Jared Matthews revealed that The Black Rabbit (122 Sears Ave. in St. Matthews) has been sold. The new owners are Sherman Lewis, Herman Lewis and Keith Kelley.

Matthews offered his thoughts.

“I couldn’t be happier than to pass down the Black Rabbit to my long-time GM, Sherman Lewis. Sherman really helped give the Rabbit a facelift while I was opening two other restaurants (Lou Lou on Market and Osteria Italian Seafood). He has always expressed his love and desire to one day be more than just a GM there.

“That building has always been very special to me because it was passed down from the legendary Chef Dean Corbett. Dean and I had many conversations about the direction I planned on taking with the legacy he left me. We both knew a change needed to happen, and Sherman was a big part of helping me achieve that goal.

“With my restaurant group expanding, I simply don’t have the time to give The Black Rabbit the TLC it needs and deserves. Sherman is the man for the job, and I’m excited to pass down the reins. His passion for the industry and serving others is a labor of love.”

Sherman Lewis had a few words of his own.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to the loyal patrons who have supported The Black Rabbit over the years. Your unwavering enthusiasm and love for this establishment inspire us as we embark on this exciting journey.”

It’s sounding to us like a win-win. Matthews’ other eateries are Lou Lou Food & Drink, Lou Lou on Market, Fox Den Billiards, Bites & Brews, and Osteria Italian Seafood (the latter profiled in our Winter 2023 issue).
