In the Louisville Courier Journal, Dahlia Ghabour reports that Hill Street Fish & Seafood (111 Hill St.) has closed. The restaurant opened in 1992 as Hill Street Fish Fry.
A sign posted on the restaurant’s door reads, “We are closed. Thank you for 31 wonderful years of serving all of you.” The restaurant was also marked permanently closed on Google and its website has shut down. The reason for the closure wasn’t given.
Big props to Dahlia for making reference to a 2016 article in the Louisville Cardinal, which is an excellent source of information about the now departed restaurant’s history, especially as it pertains to changing times and its changed identity.
Changes in store for Hill Street Fish Fry, by Brooke Moody.
(Owner Larry) Linker and his wife opened the restaurant in a completely different economy and atmosphere.
“When we first opened the restaurant, there were close to 800 small businesses in a five square mile area,” said Linker.
But the 2008 recession took its toll on Old Louisville, and the area experienced a drastic decrease in locally-owned businesses. Hill Street Fish Fry was one of the few to survive.
All of which reminds me that I haven’t had a rolled oyster in far too long.
