Derby City Pizza is back in the news.

When 15-year-old Larry Davis went to work at a local pizzeria in 1991, you might say the pie was cast. His family-oriented local pizza chain stresses solid and reasonably priced Italian food, with seven signature pizzas as well as a build-your own; gluten free and low carb crustless options; wings, salads and toasted subs; and lasagna and spaghetti with “jumbo” meatballs.

Davis tells LBI’s reporter Jones that the Highview Derby City Pizza location will be operated by his sons. If I’m counting correctly, Highview will become the 10th Derby City eatery in our defined metro coverage area, with an 11th located in Mt. Washington.

Derby City Pizza to open family-run location in Highview, by Michael L. Jones (Louisville Business First)

The founder of a Louisville-based pizza chain is opening a new family-run restaurant in South Louisville this month. Larry Davis, founder of Derby City Pizza Co., said his company has taken over the Thirsty Hound Sports Grill, located at 7207 Fegenbush Lane in Highview, which closed at the end of January.

Davis intends to keep the restaurant open while his company does renovations to transform it into a Derby City Pizza location.
