New Albany’s popular La Catrina Mexican Kitchen, itself a spin-off of the local Señor Iguanas chain, will soon be opening a second location at 125 W. Chestnut St. in downtown Jeffersonville.

The structure at 125 W. Chestnut originally was readied for use in 2019 during the build-out of the adjacent Union Restaurant & GameYard, but wasn’t intended to be a permanent part of the Union entertainment complex. Since 2021, it has been home to three short-lived food and drink concepts: That’s My Dog, Bocce Bowl, and Sangria Bar at Union.

It’s fair to suggest that La Catrina’s name recognition in Southern Indiana, combined with the eatery’s potent coupling of shareable Mexican street food and Instagrammable adult libations (margarita towers are a consistent social media theme), make for much better prospects, especially given the proximity of Parlour Pizza and the Big Four walking bridge.
