Last month WAVE’s reporter Brandon Spencer uncovered hopeful news downtown: Frankfort based grocery store and restaurant is making its way to Smoketown.

Frankfort based ‘Locals Food Hub & Pizza Pub’ is opening on the corner of East Broadway and Logan Street in the Smoketown neighborhood and is bringing fresh food with it. In a matter of months, a building established in 1863 is set to become a brand new grocery store in an area that’s considered to be in a food desert.

”We thought that we can make a significant and a greater impact pound for pound by opening a location in Louisville and specifically in a certified food desert location, which is exactly where we are in Smoketown,” said Locals Food Hub & Pizza Pub Co-Founder Birch Bragg.

Here’s what to expect.

”On one side of the building is a locally sourced woodfire pizza, salad, appetizer, counter service restaurant operation,” Bragg shared. ”And on the other side of the building is our food hub, which is a small grocery market and grocery store.”

Everything in the building is locally sourced in Kentucky and for the Louisville store, Southern Indiana farms will be involved.

The target date is October.
